1. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details β€” email address, a display name you choose, and a password (stored only as a salted hash; we cannot see it). Optionally a phone number if you add one.
  • Messages you send us, for example support requests.

Information generated by using the Site

  • Quiz activity β€” the categories and difficulty levels you play, the questions shown, the answers you select, your scores and the time taken, and when each attempt started and finished.
  • Technical data β€” IP address, browser type and version, device and operating system, referring page, pages visited and timestamps, collected automatically in server logs.
  • Cookie data β€” see section 4.

We do not collect payment details (the Site is free) and we do not ask for sensitive categories of data such as health, religion or political opinions.

We do not use your data for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

3. Public information: display names and leaderboards

Your display name, scores and number of quizzes played appear on public leaderboards and may appear on the home page. Your email address is never shown publicly. Choose a display name that does not reveal more about you than you want public; you can change it at any time under Profile in your account settings.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, protect forms against forgery and time your quizzes, and β€” only with your consent β€” analytics cookies (Google Analytics) and advertising cookies set by Google. Until you accept, Google Consent Mode keeps both in a cookieless state, so nothing is stored. Full details, including every cookie name and how to manage them, are in our Cookie Policy. You can change your choice at any time via Cookie preferences in the footer.

5. Advertising

The Site is free to play and is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. If you accept advertising cookies, Google and its certified partners may use cookies and similar identifiers to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites and to measure ad performance. If you choose "Essential only", you may still see ads, but they will not be personalised based on cookies set through this Site.

  • How Google uses data from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
  • Control personalised ads in your Google account: adssettings.google.com
  • Industry opt-outs: aboutads.info (US), youronlinechoices.com (EU/UK)

6. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data for money. We share data only as follows:

  • Service providers acting on our instructions: our hosting provider (server logs and database), our email provider (Zoho, to deliver account emails) and Google (advertising, as described above). Each is bound by contractual or published data-protection commitments.
  • Other players see your display name and scores on leaderboards (section 3).
  • Legal requirements β€” where required by law, court order or to protect the rights, safety or property of users, the public or us.
  • Business transfers β€” if the Site is transferred to a new operator, your data may transfer with it under the same protections; we will notify you of any change of controller.

Under California law, allowing Google to set advertising cookies may count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can opt out at any time using the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in the footer (choose "Essential only").

7. International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States and India. Where data leaves the EEA, UK or another jurisdiction with transfer rules, we rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, adequacy decisions, or the provider's certification under an approved framework (for example the EU-US Data Privacy Framework).

8. How long we keep data

  • Account and quiz history β€” for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your personal data and quiz attempts are deleted; aggregated statistics that cannot identify you may be kept.
  • Server logs β€” up to 90 days, unless needed longer to investigate abuse or a security incident.
  • Support messages β€” up to 2 years after the matter is closed.
  • Cookies β€” see the Cookie Policy for lifetimes.

9. Security

We protect data with measures appropriate to its sensitivity: encrypted connections (HTTPS), salted password hashing, access controls, and protections against common web attacks. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data we will notify you and any relevant authority as the law requires.

10. Your rights (all regions)

You can exercise most rights yourself, instantly, from your account:

  • Access and portability β€” Account β†’ Personal data β†’ Download gives you a copy of your data in JSON format.
  • Correction β€” edit your display name, email and phone number under Account.
  • Erasure β€” Account β†’ Personal data β†’ Delete permanently deletes your account and quiz history.
  • Withdraw consent to advertising cookies via Cookie preferences.

For anything else, email support@thequizchamp.com. We respond within one month (or sooner where local law requires), and we never charge for a reasonable request. We may ask you to verify your identity first. You may also appoint an authorised agent where your local law allows.

European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)

You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection (including to processing based on legitimate interests) and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You may complain to your national supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office) β€” we would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.

United States β€” California (CCPA/CPRA) and other state laws

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and share; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (use the footer link, choose "Essential only"); and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with privacy laws have comparable rights, which you can exercise the same way.

Canada (PIPEDA and provincial laws)

You may access and correct your personal information and withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Complaints may be directed to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Australia (Privacy Act 1988)

You may request access to and correction of your personal information and complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles. Unresolved complaints may be taken to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Brazil (LGPD)

You have the rights to confirmation of processing, access, correction, anonymisation or deletion of unnecessary data, portability, information about sharing, and to revoke consent. You may petition the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados (ANPD).

India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023)

You have the rights to access a summary of your personal data and our processing, to correction and erasure, to nominate a person to exercise your rights if you are unable to, and to grievance redressal. Our grievance officer can be reached at support@thequizchamp.com; unresolved grievances may be escalated to the Data Protection Board of India.

Other countries

Wherever you live, we honour requests for access, correction and deletion, and you can withdraw advertising consent at any time.

11. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Where local law sets a higher age of digital consent (for example 16 in parts of the EEA), that age applies. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site or the law changes. We will post the new version here with a new "last updated" date and, for material changes, notify account holders by email or a notice on the Site.
